The Dokseongjeon at Jinkwansa is the smallest building among its halls. The signboard of Dokseongjeon states that it was built in March 1907, with donations from four court ladies and two civilian couples.
Inside, there is a 37cm-tall clay statue of Dokseong, a being who attained enlightenment on his own, also known as a “Nabanjonja.”
It is believed that praying with a pure body and mind to Dokseong can lead to the fulfillment of wishes, as he is said to possess mysterious powers. The statue enshrined in Dokseongjeon depicts a gentle mountain spirit leaning against a playful-looking tiger.
This unique deity, representing a native spirit absorbed into Buddhism, is not found in other countries. Many people visit the mountain spirit to pray for children and prosperity.
