The Chilseong faith, centered on prayers for longevity and good fortune, has been passed down since the Goryeo Dynasty.
At Jinkwansa’s Chilseonggak, a 34cm-tall statue of Chilseong stands out for its round, youthful face.
To the left of the altar, there is a portrait of the notable 19th-century monk, Myeongho.
The portrait features a unique upper section with a tribute verse and a Korean title dedicated to the monk—an uncommon detail not seen in other portraits.
This cultural treasure is designated as Seoul’s Intangible Cultural Property No. 148.
